NEWS CENTRE - Stating that the state has not taken any steps even though more than a month has passed since Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan's call, KCK General Presidency Council Member Sozdar Avesta said: "They cannot pass time with words, there is no solution with words. It takes responsibility, taking steps, courage, change, apologising."
KCK General Presidency Council Member Sozdar Avesta evaluated the developments in the recent process in a special programme broadcast on Sterk TV.
Firstly, Sozdar Avesta referred to the events organised everywhere for the birthday of Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan and said, "Those who are in favour of freedom, women, youth and all those who are in the line of freedom and whose hearts beat for freedom see Rêber Apo's birthday as their own birthday. It is necessary to know the meaning of Rêber Apo's birthday well. First of all, why is it celebrated so massively today, even the celebrations start days before and continue even afterwards? Not only in Kurdistan but all over the world, in every geography where our people and friends live, and everyone who recognises Rêber Apo's ideas and thoughts celebrate this day, they see it as their own birthday. This is undoubtedly linked to the truth of Rêber Apo. The leadership also does not consider 4 April as only a biological birth. Rêber Apo has been engaged in a great struggle since the age of 6 during his 76-year life journey."
Millions embraced the call
Pointing to Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan's call for ‘Peace and Democratic Society’ on 27 February, Sozdar Avesta said, "There were 2 meetings with the DEM Party delegation, and in the 3rd meeting he called for Peace and Democratic Society. After this call, both the public opinion and we, as the freedom movement, were expecting that there would be continuous meetings with Rêber Apo and that there would be no difficulties. This historical statement of Rêber Apo was discussed in all areas. Especially on 8 March and Newroz, millions of people embraced this call. For the first time, the call was embraced so massively. No step was taken by the state after the call. Our movement, co-chairmanship and HSM made the necessary statements. It is necessary to underline some things, most of the statements made are from our movement. This move is not unilateral, Rêber Apo has things to do, the state has things to do."
A month has passed, no step!
Stating that the Kurdish People's Leader did his part, Sozdan Avesta said, "Rêber Apo did his part. He made a statement, stated what he should do from his point of view, our movement responded, but on the other hand, no steps were taken. On the contrary, although a month has passed, there has been no meeting. They continued the isolation, for example, the Newroz message of Rêber Apo was not allowed because of the isolation. The doors of İmralı must now be opened, this is Rêber Apo's right, it must be fulfilled. It is not a gratitude or a move."
‘AKP has no preparation for a solution’
Sozdar Avesta underlined that discussions have been carried out in Turkey since 2 October 2014 and stated the following: 6 months have passed. For 6 months, the public still cannot figure out what happened. As you said, there is ambiguity. Because the state, especially the current ruling AKP, still does not have a solution preparation. If there is one, it has not put it forward yet. It takes a daily, situational approach.
It should be put into practice rather than words
They themselves say that everything is for a democratic Turkey. But not with words. It must be put into practice. There is no action, no practice. It cannot be done with words and just buying time. Of course, we see Bahçeli's changing language as positive, but it is only positive if it leads to a result. It is called sugar and whip in Turkish politics. It is the Kurdish people, our movement and Rêber Apo who attach the most importance to time.
It is everyone's duty to protect the process
"It is everyone's democratic duty to protect this process,” said Sozdar Avesta, "Those who call themselves democrats, the criterion of democracy in this process is to protect Rêber Apo. The criterion of patriotism is to protect Rêber Apo, the criterion of Kurdish unity is to protect Rêber Apo. If there is to be unity among Kurds, they must first develop moves for the physical freedom of Rêber Apo."
