ŞIRNAK - A lawsuit was filed against HDP Şırnak Provincial Co-chair Sabuha Akdağ with a demand for imprisonment based on the press releases made to draw attention to the femicides.

About Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Şırnak Provincial Co-chair Sabuha Akdağ, who read the press text by participating in the statement made by Free Women’s Movement (TJA) on Art Street in Silopi district of Şırnak on July 16 against violence, harassment and abuse against women, an investigation was launched by the Silopi Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office with the allegation of ‘’provoking the public to hatred and enmity’’. According to the news of the Mesopotamia Agency, a prison sentence of one to three years was requested for Sabuha in the indictment.

The one-page indictment prepared by the Silopi Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office was accepted by the Silopi 1st Criminal Court of First Instance. Sabuha’s statement that they made a statement to draw attention to the oppression, violence, harassment and sexual abuse against women was included as an allegation in the indictment.

The statement included in the indictment included the followings: ‘’’We condemn these genocide operations. The main perpetrator of these events, which continue to increase in Kurdistan, is the law enforcement and the gangs they systematically protect. Law enforcement and gangs brutally attack Kurdish gains, society and youth. There is an understanding that attacks us brutally and inhuman. At this point, we should embrace each other, our values, our struggle more and give the harshest response to dirty policies.’’

The Prosecutor’s Office claimed that Sabuha’s statement ‘’We should give the harshest response to dirty policies’’ could pose danger to the public.

‘It is a sign that there is no justice left in this country’

Reacting to the lawsuit filed against her, Sabuha said: ‘’Our aim has been completely misguided. Because our purpose of being there was to express our reaction against the violence, harassment and rape developed against women and children. It was evaluated as Kurdistan because I said it, but our aim was clear. It is an indication that there is no justice left in this country. All unlawful acts against women are ignored, and those who react are tried to be punished.”

The first hearing of the case against Sabuha will be held at the Silopi 1st Criminal Court of First Instance on October 15.
