CFWIJ publishes first quarter report of year: 7 journalist women killed

NEWS CENTER - The Coalition for Women in Journalism published its report on the rights violations of journalist women in April and in the first quarter of the year. According to the report, seven journalist women around the world were killed in the first quarter. In April, Turkey ranks first in violation of rights against women journalists.
 
The Coalition for Women in Journalism (CFWIJ) published its report on the rights violations faced by journalists in April. In this month's report, CFWIJ also pointed to the threats and attacks faced by journalist women and the harassment cases they were subjected to. CFWIJ also shared data for the first quarter of the year.
 
51 journalists subjected to violence
 
According to data from the CFWIJ, 51 women journalists were subjected to violence, threat or harassment in April. According to the report, which draws attention to the killing of a woman journalist in the United States of America (USA), the three most violated countries are Turkey, Russia, and the USA. It was also noted in the report that in April, the highest number of judicial harassment cases against women journalists were seen around the world.
 
Turkey ranks first
 
Turkey ranked first in cases of violence, threats or harassment against woman journalists recorded by the CFWIJ. While it was pointed out that a total of 21 women journalists in Turkey were subjected to physical assault, it was stated that eight women journalists in Turkey appeared before the judge with various accusations in the last month.
 
First quarter report
 
The following data were included in the CFWIJ's first quarter report for 2021:
 
“* Throughout the world, 348 women journalists have been subjected to violence, threats or harassment so far. Compared to 2020, there was an increase of 130.34% in violence cases.
 
 * Seven women journalists were killed.
 
 * Most cases of judicial harassment against women journalists were recorded worldwide. 74 women journalists were tried on the grounds of their news or social media posts.
 
 * Afghanistan, Turkey, Myanmar, the US and Belarus were the five most dangerous countries for women journalists.
 
 * A total of 114 cases of violence against women journalists were recorded in Turkey.
 
 * In the first quarter of the year, 50 women journalists appeared before the judge in Turkey. Three women journalists were sentenced to prison.
 
 * Five women journalists are still under arrest in Turkey.
 
 * While 39 women journalists were subjected to police violence in the area, 13 of them were detained.
 
 * 22 women journalists became victims of rights violations on Artı Gerçek and Artı TV. "
